i wish it had lived up to the hype, you know?Īlso, this is the second book i've read in a year with bad dudes from france named luc. anyway, i've just seen this book everywhere and i wanted to read it so i'm glad i did (even more glad that i rented it from the library and didn't pay for a physical copy), but it just left me feeling so. the only redeeming factor in the end is how addie maybe kinda sorta tricked luc with her wording of the new agreement, but i can't help but think once he figures out she tried to dupe him then he'll really never let her go which is an even bigger bummer of an ending. also, i saw part of the ending coming from a mile away - the trope of 'this character has been writing the very book you're reading now.WHAAAAAAA?' i know it made sense for the story, but man i was disappointed.

some of the scenes between them are beautiful, like when addie realizes she can write her name with henry's hands, but the time jumps between literally every single chapter got old really fast. but it just seemed to drag for so long about a 1/4 of the way into the book until past the halfway mark when we finally meet henry. i thought the way addie insinuated herself into art was so smart and interesting. I personally love Luc and Addie together, yes her and Henry had a beautiful love story but at the end of the day, Luc was right. Spanning centuries and continents, this is a darkly romantic and suspenseful tale by a writer at the top of her game. This is the kind of book you stay up all night readingrich and satisfying and strange and impeccably crafted. luc/the darkness genuinely gave me the creeps and i felt addie's sense of loss. Meanwhile, both Addie and the reader get to know Henry and understand what sets him apart. however, i really liked the premise and i thought the writing/prose was very descriptive and well-done.
